Tour of Église Saint-Jean-Berchmans

Église St-Jean-Berchmans

Église Saint-Jean-Berchmans (1938 to 1939) by LucienParent and René-Rodolphe Tourville is an example of a bellotism-style Catholic Church, an architectural style found outside of Europe only in Quebec and eastern Ontario and is distinguished by a Latin cross, parabolic arches with nave and three aisles, and its stone cladding. The church possesses a Casavant Frères organ (opus 1620) dating from its foundation. Engravings over the entrance door are by well-known Quebec sculptor, Henri Hébert and the ornamental iron work is by forgotten Montreal blacksmith Pancrazio Balangero.

The bilingual Tour will be given by Jean Yves Bourdages, Jack Gaiptman, with Joanne Birtz, biographer of Pancrazio Balangero.
